About that strange Yucatan spider....

My good friend Mike Beal sent me this link that identifies Sooz's spider as Gastrocanthus cancriformis Spiny Orb Weaver. That was right on the tip of my tongue too. Read about it here:

Not something that I'd want to run into, but they really are quite beautiful in a strange sort of way.

omg, that is an AMAZING creature! it's gorgeous!!! one of the things i love about fall here in tulsa is the appearance of the writing spiders and their great big webs. i've had some monsters in my garden, but nothing like that beauty in the wikipedia link. i am so jealous!
